Principal's Message

Dear Queenscliff Parents and Carers,

It was lovely to see so many parents, carers, friends and community members join us last Friday for our very first assembly for 2026. The sense of excitement and connection in the room was unmistakable, and it was a wonderful way to bring our school community together at the beginning of a new year. Assemblies are always special moments in the life of a school, but there was something particularly energising about this one as we launched into the opportunities and experiences that 2026 will bring.

We were treated to brilliant class showcases from 5/6T, Year 2 and 3/4H. Each class demonstrated not only their learning, but also their confidence, creativity and willingness to step outside their comfort zones.

Our new School Leaders, Jude Spencer, Amelia Miller, Eve Le Page and Ella Clifford, did a tremendous job hosting the assembly. They spoke with confidence, clarity and presence, setting a strong example for their peers. Stepping into leadership roles so early in the year can be daunting, yet they embraced the responsibility with enthusiasm. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school and look forward to seeing them continue to grow in their leadership throughout the year.

Congratulations Xavier

Congratulations to Xavier Grainger who was selected to join the Western United soccer academy. Xavier will participate in training camps with high performance coaches and engage in competitive matches in a state league. This opportunity provides Xavier with a pathway to pursue his passion, and we are extremely proud of his achievement. We wish him all the best for the season ahead.

QPS Cross Country

To run this event safely, we require 25 volunteers (mostly course marshalls and a couple of time keepers), to cheer on our runners around the school as well as man stations along the Rail Trail, Stokes and Stevens Street. We will do our best to match parents with stations to watch their children running. Please sign up to volunteer via the link below.

Cross Country Parent Volunteer Registration

Parents/carers are welcome to come along and cheer their students on. Bring a picnic rug and enjoy a snack after the event. Please see the timetable below for approximate times of student events. Please note that we do our best to run to times, however, these may alter slightly due to the running pace of students. We look forward to seeing you on the day!

House Meetings

On Friday 13 February, our school hosted House Meetings whereby students met in their Houses with their House Student Leaders and teachers. Students revised their Houses’ values, mascot and practised their House Chants. Following this, each House learnt a new dance to perform in a ‘dance off’ on the school oval. House meetings are a wonderful opportunity for our students to build connections and relationships with students in other year levels and to support students' sense of belonging and connectedness to school. This year students will participate in activities during House meetings focused on building resilience and connectedness to school. Our Student House Leaders did a phenomenal job in leading their Houses for the afternoon. Congratulations to Gellibrand who came out on top in the ‘dance off’.

Class News - 5/6C, 3/4F & Year 1

5/6C News

5/6C have made a wonderful start to 2026, we’re so excited to be back at school with our friends and learning new knowledge! This term in Integrated Studies we are learning all about the world’s oceans, which is really interesting. Here are some fun facts about Our Oceans:

  • The Pacific Ocean is the largest, and the Arctic Ocean is the smallest.
  • The Mariana Trench, situated in the Pacific Ocean, is the deepest trench on Earth, measuring 10,984m below sea level!
  • Over 90% of the world’s oceans are unexplored by humans.
  • The average depth of the world’s oceans is nearly 3,700m!

Soon, we’ll be going out on Port Philip Bay on an excursion to learn about what lives on the ocean floor. We’re also reading a book called Blueback for our Novel Study, which is about a gigantic blue groper who lives in the ocean off Western Australia. Here is some artwork by Rosie, Heidi and Finn L of Blueback swimming in the ocean that we created in class.

Grade 3/4F News

Grade 3/4F are off to a flying start in Term 1 – what a fabulous class of students!

In Integrated Studies, we have begun fiercely marauding into the fascinating history of the Vikings. We have explored the continent of Europe, timelines, artefacts, farming and food, textiles, and the impact of social classes on the roles people played in daily life. Students have been fascinated by the skilled design of Viking ships, which enabled them to travel swiftly to trade, invade and conquer. They have been deeply engaged in discussions, asking thoughtful and reflective questions to extend their knowledge and understanding. We have also been embedding our Viking unit into English each day as we explore word meanings, complete sentence-level grammar and comprehension tasks, and participate in partnered reading to build fluency using topic texts.

Interesting fact: Did you know that the horns often depicted on Viking helmets were actually invented by an opera costume designer 156 years ago for dramatic effect?

Please enjoy our fabulous 3/4F Viking portraits and wonderings.
